arrived at the time stated for entry to the property, 4pm.","body":"We were not expected and a lady was in the premises âcleaningâ. She apologised and said she had not been notified of our booking and thought the property was vacant for the week. We had to wait over half an hour before being allowed in. \r\nThe cleaning left something to be desired, there were dead insects on the window sills and the carpet looked grubby, there was dust in the bedroom. I think the property is in need of a deep clean, skirting boards, ceiling corners etc. We were visiting with a pet but were amazed to see the cottage being cleaned with two dogs in attendance in and out of the premises.\r\nThere are no facilities for recycling, just the suggestion we travel to Bridport for the recycling centre, think this is a necessity. Only 2 bin bags provided, I do not think we should be expected to provide them.\r\n\r\nThe TV needs updating, very few channels available on freeview, I know this is a minor thing but just thought Iâd mention it.\r\n\r\nAdmittedly we may have been spoilt by our previous stays at another property weâve rented from yourselves, Bridgehouse apartment, which we couldnât fault in any way. \r\n\r\nRegardless of these comments we enjoyed our stay, the property is in a good position, you need to inform prospective clients of the summer fair in the field opposite as some might not like the noise especially if they have young children. There was no noise or mess to deal with even though the farm is quite close. Once off the main road the lanes to access East Barn are mainly single track. There are some interesting places to visit which are not far to access by car. East Barn is a lovely property with a drive for parking, a fenced, grassy area for a garden and a concrete patio. Inside all 3 bedrooms are downstairs with a family bathroom, utility room which all have good quality, comfortable furnishings, fittings and appliances. Upstairs is a galley kitchen, large, light, airy lounge and dining area and an extra shower room with WC & hand basin. The furnishings, fittings and appliances are all of good quality and very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped with all we needed for the week. We were a party of 3 adults and 2 dogs and had a lovely time staying at East Barn which made our holiday very special. The cottage was very calming and easy to relax in and the views were superb. The original description of the second bedroom was incorrect. It can realistically only sleep one person and has little storage space! It was not clear that the second bathroom was downstairs, through the kitchen [another disadvantage for our more elderly friend]. The kitchen is by no means spacious, as described! The nasty smell on entering the property was overwhelming & spoiled the time we were in the cottage. Lyme Holiday Cottages responded to our phone call & sent a man who agreed that it was nasty & gave us aerosol sprays. This was no solution & hardly masked the smell. This needs investigating. Other concerns: 1. No handrails on the steep stairs! Legal requirement???? 2. No handrail on steps up to porch. 3. Front door sticks. Difficult to open from inside or out. 4. Window in small bedroom doesn't open. By parking here this resident made the parking very tight and blocked the entrance footpath. \r\n\r\nThe cottage was not as clean as some we have stayed in recently and despite asking everyone to empty the bins no spare bin bags were provided.\r\nSome of the kitchenware and pans needed to be cleaned before they could be used. \r\n\r\nThe bedding was off white in colour and looked very tired. We had such a lovely relaxing time by the sea at this gorgeous cosy cottage. Such a comfortable cottage with so much character. It had everything we needed and more and was in loveliest little village. Perfect for our family, we can't wait to stay here again and we will definitely be returning asap!\nThe local beach at Charmouth is stunning with great countryside walks and if you like fossils I don't think there is a better place :) (10 minute walk.) Royal Oak pub has amazing food and does a fantastic Sunday roast (2 min walk.) Newlands holiday park has a swimming pool with jacuzzi and sauna to use just for £5, absolute bargain and great for kids or if you need a little break on your own (5 min drive.)
