Get the impression it used to be more popular some time ago, for the owners, whilst friendly, are perhaps a little amateur despite being in this business for a long time. \r\nHave to be confident remembering the last passing place as you travel the single-track lanes 2miles from Necton where there is a good Co-op shop and filling station.\r\nOnly real problems on site were the kettle tripping the whole power system until it was replaced as there were no spare plug fuses. You need to make toast with the door open or the fire alarm goes off. Wi-Fi was perfectly OK - it just needs a quick mention in the cottage information sheets. The siting is only disappointing if you want to walk a lot as the restrictions on where you can walk because of private properties make it very difficult to work out from the maps provided in the information sheets. We were so disappointed that both settees had their liners torn down under them, the cushions were also stained, not washed in a long time. There were cobwebs all around the kitchen and other rooms.\r\nAlso discovered one of two carving knives had been snapped in half and hidden behind the cutlery tray, the same draw was full of crumbs, not cleaned out for quite a while. The toaster had been damaged and would only work when holding the handle down.\r\nThe bedroom main light did not work, I discovered the energy saver tube had been smashed and the lamp holder damaged. I replaced this with permition of the owner as I was an electrician. The bed bed felt insecure when you laid on it and creaked badly, luckily i found a screw driver and allen key to tighten it all up. Later as we stripped the bed we discovered that the mattrass on the bed was badly stained, so off putting!\r\nWe also had to buy our own kitchen sponge, surface cleaner and toilet rolls. We used it as a base to travel from and as such racked up some miles as there is not too much close by, but it suited us. It has character, but also a well equiped modern kitchen for eating in. I found the settee comfortable for evenings in, but the bed somewhat firm and not very comfortable for my liking. The breakfast bar isn't great if you are the person on the right under the sloping ceiling. \r\nBe prepared to accept that you will almost certainly crack your head against the ceiling a few times during your stay as you go into the bedroom! Final point is that the WiFi really is painfully slow. I mean pre bradband dial up slow! It regulalrly cuts out making research and booking visits & events, or even just keeping up with emails very difficult and infuriating. This really needs sorting as in the modern world it does detract from the visitor experience. It's good that the flat has its own parking space, although access down the alleyway is tight. There is a mistake in the driving instructions; from the High Street you turn right into Old Bakery Lane, not left.\r\nInside the furniture is basic, especially the dining table and benches which are flimsy and uncomfortable to sit on. But the kitchen is well equipped and the bed was OK. We booked both flats 2 and 3 for our extended family, which worked out really well; the two flats share a common, lockable, entrance and stairs, so we were able to leave our internal flat doors open and come and go as we pleased. Unfortunately Sykes' website makes it really difficult to do this; they need to change it so that one person can book two holiday homes at once. Our accommodation was in a great location that allowed us to explore easily and not be too far from base. The flat contained everything we needed and was spotless on arrival. There is one double bed (slightly on the small side...for me anyway) and 4 sofa bed chairs that made up two excellent double beds for the children that really enjoyed them. TV and Netflix were easy to use (thank you for the log in details). Kitchen was well stocked expect for a lack of tin opener which we happily went and bought for the flat. The car parking space proved valuable too.
