On the last day be bought some steak from his farm and had a BBQ, it was delicious! Ashley also provided us with a large basket of wood and every night we would light a fire and play card games. \r\nPlaced on a working farm, there are plenty of fields and walks within the area to explore. The nearest supermarkets are a 5 minute drive in each direction and the High St and local town centre with shops & restaurants are also very close by, there are also Cider and a Buffalo farm a short drive away where you can purchase local produce. \r\nThere are many beaches and sightseeing spots all within a 45 minute drive.\r\nWe visited, The Tor at Glastonbury, The Cheddar Gorge and went shopping at Clarkâs village. We also went to West Bay, Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Weymouth Bay, Portland Bill as well as Durdle Door and Ludworth Cove beaches where the boys were able to hire kayaks, paddle boards and pedalos. The showers did require a hand rail, especially the en-suite walk in one which can be used and appreciated by a disabled person. The addition of a DVD player in the living room, to give extra choice on a dark wet evening. The side gate to keep children and pets safe within the back garden is I understand a newish and appreciated addition. With keeping dogs safe in mind though, the front gate and hedge and side fence between the two properties does need wire being added. A smaller dog can easily get through and wonder. This new [ well a year old] traditional looking home is just wonderful. It may look like a log cabin on the outside but the inside is beautifully and tastefully appointed in the most modern style [Shiona obviously has an eye for these things]! The weather was scorching and having the bi-fold doors in the family room made it easy to be out on the patio - where there was a table, chairs and parasol - plus a BBQ for al fresco dining. The master bedroom had doors onto the patio too - and we slept with them open, it was so hot.\r\nThe lodge is ideally placed for visiting South Somerset and Dorset. Safe and secure garden for our mini yorkshire terrier who enjoyed laying under the bushes in the shade to keep cool. Local recreational ground 5min walk away where she was able to run off her lead. We visited Cheddar, Wells and Street shopping outlet all in easy reach. Lots of lovely local farm shops and friendly pubs close by. High chair and nice big travel cot provided. We highly recommend the Rectory Lodge and will certainly being staying again in the future. The only slight negative about the barn, for us, was that the master bedroom is a 4'6\" double and therefore on the small side for two adults in the heatwave conditions, so my husband and I had the twin room, which whilst adequate, is very small and has no storage. However it didn't spoil our holiday in any way. Although we didn't see the owners they were very quick to respond by text to my enquiries and very helpful. The barn is in a very convenient spot close to Yeovil and the main routes into Dorset, yet in a pleasant and quiet location. Friendly farm cats too!
